Going up from SV is a slow climb, going down is much easier. You really want to have low range. If it's hot, keep an eye on the temp gauge and turn off the A/C if needed. You really want LT tires out there. If you have passenger tires, carry an extra spare or stuff to repair tires. Unless it has really deteriorated since I was last there, an Explorer sized SUV should be ok. There might be a couple of tight turns that will require some manuvering.
