Balarat Bandit's Bike Busted!!!
While exploring near our camp at the entrance to South Park Canyon in Panamint Valley this weekend, my godson Blake came across a Yamaha 80 trail bike that appeared to have been dumped in a wash. It was covered by bushes and a garbage bag, and he was surprised to discover that the motor still turned over. He wheeled it back to camp, where we all came the the inescapable conclusion that it was probably stolen. Headed home on Tuesday, we loaded it up into one of the trucks and brought it to the Sherrif's sub-station in Trona. The deputy ran the numbers, and, sure enough, it came back stolen.....then he realized that this was the same style of bike "that had been used in a series of robberies" around the Balarat area. He got pretty excited and started making phone calls. The bike will now be worked up by an evidence team and the owner contacted.
While its possible that nothing helpful towards catching the bandit will come from this, at least we got someone's motorcycle back.........
...............and maybe it means that son-of-a-bitch is no longer mobile......
