Every morning and evening the DVNPS transmitts a sonopsis of conditions at the end they deliver messages, I would agree with others on the fact that thay should be restricted to EMERGENCIES!!
These are "usually" monitored by the caretaker types and hams, no garentees. But in extreme emergencies, they do have options. If you anticipit a major catastrophe, best not get so far out in the woods, or desert, commen sense.
It take away the feeling of remotentss when we all have no reguard for taking chances, I guess if you get in trouble, some one else will get you out of the jam with a phone call cause you werent prepared for the worst.
