Hot is the word all right. Eureka should be about 10 degrees cooler than Death Valley proper, because Eureka is about 3000 feet elevlation. Two wheel drive should be fine for where you plan to go.
If you like backcountry (non-campground) camping you might try Hunter Mountain, it's about 7000 feet elevation. Weather info for Hunter mtn. is on the web.(see link)
