While out doing a site survey, we received word that the South Park Rd. had a rock slide. Since we were in the area, we drove up and reported back to the BLM Ridgecrest Office, Steve Smith and Randy Lewis, that in fact the road did collapsed and is no longer passable. This took place above the telephone bridge. Temporary signs as with large rocks across the road have been placed to indicate the road is closed.
Sunday afternoon/evening sometime, a jeep over shot the road and its front end went over the side of the road. It was winched out, but the front tires chewed away the side of the road, causing it to collapse. This is what I gathered at the BLM office.
Sorry I have no other information and please do not email me. The road is impassable and very unstable. Phil is heading out there to place up closure signs.
